School of thought – Humanistic (3rd reflection)

Hello again everyone. How you all have been doing? I feel exhausted! HAHA! *kidding*
Our class for Pedagogy is from 5pm until 7pm and I was already feel tired that time because of the afternoon class from 3pm until 5pm, but we as a student should never complain about tired or too many assignments because that is our duty as a student. 💁😉
3rd reflection is Humanistic school of thought that presented by Sabarinah’s team. 👍

Humanistic school of thought, a second school of thought about learning and instruction is based upon humanistic education, which borrows heavily from social psychology. Persons who champion humanistic or ‘affective’ education focus on the social and emotional learning and development of students. While the humanistic approach recognizes the importance of cognitive learning, it feels that schools focus too much on accumulating knowledge or skills and too little on helping students learn to become psychologically healthy persons.

There are some beliefs of the humanistic school that hold several core beliefs; the belief of having a good feelings about one self can create positive personal development and may enhance the academic achievement, school and classroom must satisfy students needs, teachers must have strategies and technique that are suitable for learners and also knowing how to learn is more important than acquiring knowledge.

In addition, there are two examples humanistic approaches to teaching and learning which is the project method and cooperative learning. The project method encourages kids to pursue their own learning interests, while cooperative learning promotes social and emotional growth in a classroom where children share, accept, and respect. Other than that, there are also other humanistic approaches to teaching and learning which is inviting school success, values clarification, moral education and multiethnic education.

So, I have uploaded photo for us easier to understand. For the next school of thought is behavioral school of thought that will be present by me and my team members. I think we will do great for the next presentation because my team member was very talk-active, jovial and friendly and also we all have so much in common. 😂👍

School of thought - Cognitive (2nd Reflection)

My second reflection in Sir Teo class, the first group to present would be Rachel’s team, they will discuss about The Cognitive School of Thought which is one the first topic from the three school of thought.  Before I explain more about the topic, I still remember that time it’s a rainy day and my classmate including myself can already feel the "bed and pillow" (sleepy) 😴 but unfortunately the class must go on and as usual sir Teo will always keep us to stay awake with his joke. 👍😂

The cognitive school of thought, it is study by the cognitive scientist about how people/student thinks or what goes inside our heads when we are learning. It has been contributed into two types of ideas by the cognitive scientists which is information processing and meaningful learning that helps us to understand how people learn and remember. To easier for us to remember, I will explain in my own words about what is information processing and meaningful learning.

Information processing: it is about how we mentally take in and store information and we retrieve it when we needed. For example, as a tutor if we understand and know about the information processing, we should be able to help our student in become a better at taking in and remembering information. Furthermore, it is also expand into two types of remembering information which are short term memory and long term memory. The following figure is illustrate how the study believes information is process.

Meaningful learning: it is about how information can be made more meaningful so that it can be better understood and used, there are several other recommended ways of teaching that are expansions or elaboration of forms of meaningful learning which is authentic learning, scaffolding, reciprocal teaching (ReT) and problem solving

That's all from my simple explanation and visual for us to understand well about cognitive school of thought. 💁😀
